Eurovision Songs to suit any wedding day

Hello Europe!  It’s Devizes calling!

Eurovision is always a night of colour and energy - it’s a place where artists show off all the things that make them unique.  It is a night of acceptance and joy.  Or at least, it is in my house…

Whilst Eurovision might not seem the most obviously romantic of occasions, for those of you Eurovision fans like me who might be considering weaving in a subtle touch of Euro-magic into their wedding, I wanted to share with you my top 5 Eurovision tunes that cha-cha-slide perfectly into a wedding day.

  1. Move - The Mamas, Sweden 2020

This upbeat gospel number celebrates commitment.  With lyrics that include the promise that ‘Even when the rain is falling / Even when you hit the bottom / I'll be there’ Move is an uplifting number that makes me just feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

2. Ten Years, Daði Freyr, Iceland 2021

You might remember Daði og Gagnamagniðr as the geeky Icelandic band with the funny pixel jumpers… but singer Daði Freyr’s song 10 Years is much more than the Eurovision gimmicks that get applied to it for TV.  10 Years is dedicated to his wife, his never ending love for her and how every day together just gets better… awwww.

3 Yes, Ben and Tan, Denmark, 2020

‘Say yes, say yes, say yes!’ - what more can be said, this duet just gives me engagement vibes.

4. When We’re Old, Ieva Zasimauskaitė,  Lithuania, 2018

This is a really understated and beautiful song about the little things in relationship that make it special.  The little moments of deep connection that you share and the little memories that will keep you smiling even when you’re old.

5. Marry Me, Krista Siegfrids, Finland 2013

I couldn’t put together a Eurovision wedding playlist without this bubble gum, slightly bonkers (and therefore brilliantly Eurovision) classic.  With a stage performance featuring references to Las Vegas weddings and a bride wearing neon pink hotpants, it just couldn’t be overlooked… be warned, it’s very catchy!

Are you a Eurovision fan?  Would you love some subtle (or not so subtle!) references to the worlds biggest song contest to feature in your wedding ceremony?  I’d love to talk to you!  With a bespoke celebrant-led wedding ceremony nothing is off the table - our only limitation is what is important to you.

But, for now I’m off to whisk up a quick cocktail, crack out the glowsticks and pop up the European bunting, because E-Day is a big event in our house!
