How to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary

Firstly congratulations.  When you exchange rings and vows, you enter a new chapter of your lives together - and after sharing fifty years walking side by side with another person this is truly something to be celebrated.

From big celebrations to intimate get-togethers, however you choose to celebrate this milestone, a golden wedding anniversary is a wonderful excuse to gather together friends and family.

Creative 50th Anniversary Ideas

Relive your first dance

Travel back 50 years to the first time you embraced in a pool of light feeling the warm wishes of your loved ones wash over you as you shared your first dance.  Why not recapture that moment by playing that same special song - you could even consider sharing the focus with your children and grandchildren, showing how your love has grown over the fifty years.

Renew your vows

In the fifty years that have passed since you first said ‘I do’ new people may have come into your life, and this is a wonderful opportunity to reaffirm your love to each other, surrounded by those people important to your life together.  A vow renewal celebrates your love, and also the journey that you have walked together and share with the world that your love is just as strong today as it was 50 years ago.

Always dreamt of celebrating your wedding on a beach, or woodland but got married in a church?  This is the perfect opportunity to make new memories together and make your dream a reality!

Revisit Your Memories

In fifty years you will have shared many memories together - your golden wedding anniversary is the perfect chance to revisit some of these and walk down memory lane.  Whether you have your viel carefully packed away, newspaper clippings and cards from your 50 years together, and of course photos, why not use this milestone occasion to firstly share these items with your family?

Take a trip to a special location

Whether you have a special place that you like to go as a couple, or somewhere that you’ve never been but have always wanted to go, why not take this opportunity to make new memories and reaffirm your love by making a trip together?

Hold a Sand Ceremony

If you’re having a gathering of friends and family a sand ceremony is a wonderfully visual and symbolic moment that you may wish to consider - is a great way to  include your immediate family in your special day too.

People taking part in the sand ceremony (whether this is the couple or also includes their family) take coloured sand and carefully pour these one at a time in layers into a decorative jar. With the final layer, the sands are poured in together, with the grains of sand intermingling - representing the uniqueness of the individuals in your family and also that your love for each other means that your lives will forever be joined, just as it is impossible to separate the individual grains of sand from the jar.

Fifty years of marriage is an incredible achievement and not something that everyone gets to celebrate.  Whatever way you choose to mark the special occasion, whether just as a couple, or with a larger gathering, celebrate this very important day in a way that feels right to you.
