How to plan the perfect proposal

Nearly 40% of engagements happen between the end of November and Valentines Day - that is a lot of questions being popped and fingers glittering with new rings!  So if you’re planning to ask that all-important question, that moment where the world stops and you wait with bated breath for the answer… how can you make it extra special?

Where is the best place to propose?

Choosing the perfect proposal location can seem tricky.   “Where did you propose?” is a question so many new fiances are asked, and so it can feel extra pressured to find exactly the right spot.

Propose at a Beautiful Landmark

If you want to capture your moment in photos, why not consider somewhere with an amazing background?  Take a romantic walk around the stones of Stonehenge, get down on one knee along Southbank with Big Ben chiming, gaze into your partners eyes as you drink in the view from the London Eye - the UK has some amazing locations for that perfect photo-ready proposal.

Propose at a Meaningful Location

The place you propose doesn’t have to be decided by its beauty - finding somewhere special to you as a couple can have even more meaning than somewhere with a stunning backdrop.  Maybe you have a favourite restaurant or the cafe where you had your first date - these places, special to the two of you and intrinsic to your love story can make the start of this next chapter even more exciting.

Make Your Own Special Proposal Location

You can make any location special with a couple of little touches that show how important this moment is to you.  Consider a path of rose petals, lighting some candles or having a special song playing is right for you and your partner.

When should I propose?

If you’re ready to pop the question, finding the right moment can feel like a mountain to climb.  So think about what if important for you and your partner.

  • Private Proposal - this is a moment about the two of you, and choosing to step into a new part of life together, so you may decide that you want your proposal to be just about you too, if so then find a time when you can be together and won’t be interrupted.

  • Public Proposal - you may want to make a public declaration of your love, facing straight into your commitment and effectively shouting it from the rooftops.  Situations when family and friends are gathered together can be great for this for example Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.  Some couples choose to start their engagement at other family gatherings, however, be mindful that your proposal doesn’t upstage another event - that can make people rather miffed!

Just Be You

Being yourself is the most important part of any proposal.

The very fact that you’re asking someone to spend their life with you, to walk beside you forever and to be your other half is one of the most special things in the world.  How to propose shouldn’t matter as long as you’re thinking about your partner and your life together.  You don’t need fireworks, fanfares or doves to make your engagement a special moment.
